Live painting at events in Katowice - an attraction that draws attention and inspires
Live painting in Katowice - portraits painted live at corporate events, trade fairs and galas. See how it works and what you gain by organising an event with live art.
· Anna Karwala
Katowice is a city that, before my eyes, has changed from an industrial centre into one of the most interesting event locations in Poland. The International Congress Centre, Spodek, NOSPR - these are spaces where, every weekend, something happens that deserves an artistic comment. That’s exactly why I’m increasingly invited here by conference and gala organisers who want their event to stay in their guests’ memory for longer than one evening.
For me, live painting is a way to hold onto a moment. I paint portraits, group scenes or motifs referring to the theme of the event in front of the participants. This text will show you what it looks like in practice in Katowice and what such a solution brings to your event programme.

What live painting at events in Katowice is
Live painting is a creative process carried out live, during the event. I arrange my station so that it fits naturally into the event space - discreetly, but visibly enough for guests to walk up freely, watch and ask questions. Easel, palette, acrylics or watercolours - I move my whole studio into the room where your event takes place.
Over the course of a few hours, a dozen or so portraits of participants, group scenes or pictures inspired by the place come into being. In Katowice I often weave in characteristic motifs - the arch of Spodek, the mass of the Silesian Museum, the brick rhythm of Nikiszowiec. This makes the picture both a portrait of a person and a portrait of the city.
Why choose live painting for an event in Katowice
The first reason is the simplest - it draws attention. In the first minutes a group of curious people gathers around my easel and stays longer than they planned. In the evening it happens that the same person comes back three times to check how their friend’s portrait is coming along.
The second reason is interaction. Live painting isn’t a show, it’s a conversation. Guests ask about the technique, about colours, about how I recognise who to paint. They often volunteer themselves and sit down on the “model’s chair”. For the organiser that’s gold - these are the moments people talk about at work on Monday.
The third reason is the keepsake. Every picture that comes out from under my brush during the event stays. You can hand them out as gifts to key guests, give them away at the end of the evening, or keep them for the company as office decoration. It isn’t a gadget that ends up in a drawer - it’s a work of art that hangs on the wall for years.
The fourth reason is personalisation. Every piece is created for a specific event. We can agree that the pictures will include elements of your visual identity, campaign slogans, or precisely those Katowice motifs that tie the event to the city.
The fifth reason is prestige. Live art brings the event a tone you can’t buy from a catalogue of an event marketing agency. It’s the detail that lifts an event from “it was fun” to “it was different from everywhere else”.

Which events in Katowice gain from live painting
Trade fairs and industry conferences. Katowice is the capital of trade fairs - from EEC at MCK to technology conferences at Spodek. A stand with an artist painting live wins the fight for attention against any advertising banner. Guests walk up, stay, talk to your sales team, because they’re waiting for the portrait to be finished.
Corporate events - galas, anniversaries, team integrations. A 25th company anniversary at the Monopol hotel in Katowice or a gala for competition winners at NOSPR gain a new layer thanks to live painting. Handing pictures to key employees at the end of the evening makes a bigger impression than flowers and a statuette.
Banquets and business dinners. Elegant meetings with foreign partners are formats in which live painting fits perfectly. Guests talk, eat, and in the background a picture comes into being that will be a keepsake from the evening.
Product launches and showcases. If you’re bringing a new product to market, we can agree that the pictures will refer to its features, colour scheme and design. It’s a visual comment on your campaign that stays long after the event ends.
Katowice as inspiration - how the city influences what I paint
Katowice is graphically rewarding to me. It has lines no other Polish city has. Spodek is like a drawing from the 1960s come to life. The Silesian Museum, with its glass and steel set against a former coal mine, is a ready-made poster. The Culture Zone around NOSPR is architecture that asks for a brush of its own.
I work in Katowice differently than in Kraków or Warszawa. Here the colours are stronger, the contrasts sharper. The black of coal, the red of brick, the white of MCK’s concrete. It’s a city where character in a portrait comes easily - because the background already has it.
I often suggest to clients that in pieces made for Katowice events we leave room for such a local accent. A detail in the background, a fragment of architecture, the silhouette of Spodek in a corner. It costs me an extra dozen or so minutes per picture, and it gives the work a rootedness in place.
How the live painting collaboration runs - step by step
Stage one - the initial conversation. I ask you about the event: date, venue, number of guests, the character of the meeting, the expected style of the portraits. I check whether I have the date free and roughly estimate how many pictures I can make in the time available. If you’re working on consistent visual communication, I can match the style of the work to your visual identity.
Stage two - the detailed briefing. We settle the specifics: how many portraits, in what technique, in what format. We decide whether the pictures should include brand elements, local motifs, or rather stick to a classic portrait form. If the event has a leading theme, I adjust the palette and style.
Stage three - the day of the event. I arrive early to set up my station. I need about an hour and a half to lay out the easel, paints and lighting. During the event I paint continuously - breaks only for a short breath. I arrange the finished works so that guests can view and recognise them.
Stage four - finishing up. At the end of the evening I hand the pictures to the organiser or directly to the people portrayed. Works in watercolour are dry; in acrylic they need a few more hours. We can arrange for you to collect them the next day from the hotel, or I’ll send them by courier.

What you gain - and what you won’t
You gain an attraction that works through the whole event, not just for fifteen minutes of a show. You gain material for social media - a short film of the painting process has a drama that can’t be artificially staged. You gain gifts for VIPs that cost less than good-quality business presents and make a bigger impression.
What you won’t gain is a pyrotechnic effect. Live painting is calm, intimate, and it asks guests for a moment of attention. It’s not a format for events with lasers and loud electronic music in a packed room. It works best where people talk, eat, listen to talks - that is, at 90 percent of Katowice business events.
The most common questions from organisers in Katowice
Do you need a big station? No. An easel, a small table for paints, a chair for the model - it all fits in three square metres. I can be set up in a corner of the room or by the entrance.
Do you need special lighting? I prefer daylight or soft spot lighting. If the room is heavily dimmed, I bring my own lamp.
Do you paint only people? Most often yes, but during an event I can also paint a group scene, a motif connected to the company, a panorama of the city. We decide that at the briefing.
How many portraits are created over an evening? In postcard format - about fifteen. In A4 - eight. In A3 - four to five. It depends on the technique and the level of detail.

Live painting
Wedding live painting or a wedding bartender, a drink bar at the wedding?
A drink bar is taste, live painting is an image. I compare both wedding attractions in terms of the keepsake's permanence, interaction and impact on the atmosphere.

Wedding live painting or a fireworks show at the wedding?
A fireworks show lasts 15 minutes, a portrait stays for years. I compare both wedding attractions in terms of permanence, emotion, costs and their effect on guests.
