Good children's illustration is not naive cartoons or quick graphic shortcuts. It is simplified, non-literal imagery that develops a child's imagination and uses a visual language close to the youngest audience.
I work with simplification. A character expresses more with their whole body than a sequence of realistic images would - if drawn well. What some see as a limitation is, for me, a storytelling tool.
Children's illustration also works for adults - those who want to surround themselves with gentleness, lightness, warmth. That is why my posters land in kids' rooms and living rooms alike.

01What technique do you use for children's illustration?+
Mostly digital - in Procreate and Photoshop, with paper textures so the work feels hand-drawn and warm rather than plastic. I also paint in watercolor. I pick the technique based on where the illustration will live: a poster, a hoodie print, a wall in a playroom. I never use AI generators - every piece is entirely mine, built layer by layer, with real feeling for the character.
02How do you match kids illustration to the child's age?+
For the youngest, I lean on strong contrast, simple shapes and clear characters - a toddler locks onto those more easily. For older kids, I bring in narrative, detail and more story unfolding on the page. I always work through simplification, but never in a dumbed-down way - kids illustration should stretch the imagination, not flatten it. We settle the age group up front, in your inquiry, and I match the visual language to it.
03Can you create illustration for kids apparel prints?+
Yes. I make prints for hoodies, t-shirts and bodysuits - I fit the illustration to the print size and the spirit of the whole collection, so it sits well on fabric, not just on screen. You get files ready for production, in the resolution and formats your printer or manufacturer needs. If you're building a full line of kids' clothing, I'll keep one consistent style across the series.
04Do you create nursery illustration for kindergartens and kids' spaces?+
Yes. I design the visual setting for kindergartens, nurseries, libraries and classrooms - posters, wall stickers, artwork for a mural. I create the illustration and hand over files ready to print, or to be carried out on-site by the team painting the walls. The whole space can share one consistent style, matched to the children's age. I also prepare nursery illustration for pediatric offices - wall art and cards to use in sessions with a child.
05What file formats will I get my children's illustration in?+
You get files matched to where the illustration is headed - print, web or social media. For print I prepare them in CMYK, at 300 DPI and with bleed, so the printer has nothing to flag. For online, lighter web versions. We settle the format when I quote - tell me what you need and I'll handle the technical side for you.
06Can I use children's illustration on products I sell?+
Yes, but we agree the scope of use up front and put it in the contract. If you want the illustration on products for sale - apparel, accessories, booklets - we define the license: where, how long, and whether it's exclusive. Broader rights and exclusivity I price separately, because that's real value for your brand. Net rates, VAT invoice. It's all laid out in the quote after you fill in the form.
