Wall mural with custom product illustration - work by Anna Karwala

Services for brands

Illustration that
gives your
product a face.

Instead of a stock-photo fruit montage on a jelly box - original illustration that tells the product's story the way no photo can. For brands that want to look different from the competition.

Why it matters

Illustration uncovers
the product's second layer.

"Serving suggestion" - the small-print disclaimer under a stock photo of perfect fruit on a jelly packet. There are no whole strawberries in the sachet. Instead of explaining it in fine print, you can illustrate what's actually inside in a more interesting, more honest way - without misleading anyone.

The same goes for other categories. Products that aren't visually exciting - or are too generic - have a second layer: their function, their character, the associations around them. Product illustration brings that out. We focus on what's distinctive and strong, not on pretending the product looks different than it does.

If a product is known well enough to play with, we make a metaphor. That's how the beer series inspired by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse came out of my studio: each beer, depending on flavor and strength, got a different horseman. "Death" - of course the strongest. Packaging stays on the shelf at home long after the contents are gone.

What I do

Six things for
your brand's products.

Packaging, label, print, wall mural, game card, series. Every project is a different production technique - files have to land at the right printer in the right format.

  1. 01

    Packaging and label

Illustration on a box, bottle, pouch, jar. Shows the contents without stock-photo fakery, gives the product a face and character.

  2. 02

    Print on product

Patterns for t-shirts, mugs, socks, pillows, bedding. I design graphically so the same artwork holds together across very different surfaces.

  3. 03

    Wallpaper and wall mural

Illustration on a wall - a child's room, an office, a cafe. Repeat pattern or one large composition. Files ready for large-format printers.

  4. 04

    Product series

A line of drinks, cosmetics, candles - several visually consistent variants. Like the beer series inspired by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse I delivered.

  5. 05

    Game cards and accessories

Board game cards, themed decks, game accessories. Every illustration has to work in a small format and read clearly at a glance.

  6. 06

    Promo merch & swag

Illustrations for promotional merch - tote bags, t-shirts, stickers, coasters. On-brand swag people actually keep.

Illustration on the product

We personalize everything
around us.

Putting illustration directly on products is growing fast in apparel and textiles. Original t-shirt prints, graphics on jackets, custom patterns on socks - today this is how people express themselves. The same pattern can mean something different on two different people - that's the point.

We also like to personalize our surroundings. Illustration can land on cushions, bedding, a baby blanket, a child's wall mural. In the kitchen - on the mug of daily coffee or tea. Each surface has its own rules: different print technique, different file format, different resolution. I confirm this with your printer before we start.

How collaboration works

Four steps, no
invoice surprises.

From inquiry to production files. Brief, quote, project, approval, finalization - four stages, clear milestones, VAT invoice on completion.

  1. 01

    You send an inquiry

You describe the product, the category, the audience and what you want the illustration to do. The more detail, the faster I understand what you need.

  2. 02

We agree on scope and quote

Based on the inquiry I lay out scope, timeline and quote. We pin down file formats - packaging, label, wallpaper, print on product.

  3. 03

I present the project for approval

First a sketch, then the full illustration. You flag notes, ask, request revisions - we lock the direction together before finalization.

  4. 04

    I finalize the project

Final tweaks and production-ready files - CMYK with bleed for print, RGB for social media, high-resolution archive.

Frequently asked

What exactly is product illustration?

The questions brands ask most often when considering illustration over photography. Missing something? Write to me.

01 What exactly is product illustration? +

Product illustration is original artwork that plays the role of a product photo. It can be realistic or highly stylized - depending on the brand. It gives what photography can't: character, metaphor and a unique style - authored work, not a stock image shared across the industry.

02 Why illustration instead of photos? +

Illustration gives a brand flexibility photography can't match - you can show metaphor, atmosphere, a concept that can't be photographed. It's authored: you guarantee a competitor won't put identical stock right next to you on the shelf. That builds shelf recognition and brand identity in communication.

03 How does product illustration affect branding? +

Custom illustration builds a consistent visual style that a customer recognizes without seeing the logo. It communicates brand values - innovation, tradition, warmth, humor - through the drawing itself. A long-term investment in brand identity, not a one-off campaign.

04 Do I get print-ready files? +

Yes. Files arrive in the format your printer needs - CMYK, bleed, 300 dpi minimum, vector or raster depending on production technique. Textile prints have different requirements than offset packaging. I confirm specs with your printer before finalizing.

05 Who owns the rights to the illustration? +

Rights transfer is set in the contract. Standard: full usage rights on agreed exploitation fields (packaging, campaign, social media). Moral rights stay with me by law, but signature on packaging isn't required - that's your call.

Use cases

Where it works.

  1. 01

    Craft alcohol label

Winery, craft brewery, small-batch distillery - original label design gives a small brand the character a printed photo of the bottle can never capture.

  2. 02

    Candle, soap, cosmetics

A label on a soy candle jar, a cream tube, a soap wrap. A delicate product the customer buys with their eyes before they ever smell it.

  3. 03

    Packaging for sweets

A chocolate box, a praline case, a bag of gingerbread. Packaging illustration turns sweets into a ready-made gift before anyone even unties the ribbon.

  4. 04

    Full board game

Not just the cards. I illustrate the board, tokens, rulebook and box - one consistent game world that reads clearly at every scale.

  5. 05

    Puzzles and kids' games

Artwork for jigsaw puzzles, memory games and educational boards. One composition that works both cut into pieces and seen as a whole picture.

  6. 06

    Limited-edition packaging

A holiday or anniversary version of the box with original illustration. A reason for the brand to show a new side - and for the customer to buy now.

Good to know

Before you ask.

01How much does packaging illustration cost?+

I don't have an off-the-shelf price list - I quote every piece of packaging separately. The cost depends on how complex the illustration is, the number of variants (a single design or a whole series), how long and where the artwork will be used, and the scope of rights I transfer. I put together a quote once you fill in the form and describe the product. I reply within 48 hours, quote net rates and issue a VAT invoice.

02What's the difference between product illustration and advertising illustration?+

Product illustration lands on the product itself or its packaging - a box, a label, a t-shirt, a game card, a wall mural. Advertising illustration lives in the campaign: on a poster, in a post, on a banner, on a company card. Often it's the same authored style, just a different usage field and a different file at the end. If you're not sure which one you need, describe the product and the goal - I'll tell you what makes sense.

03Will you design a t-shirt print for my brand?+

Yes, I do prints for t-shirts, hoodies, tote bags and other textiles - a single custom print design or a small collection that stays consistent across different surfaces. I work so the same motif reads well on a shirt and on a sticker alike. Textile printing has different requirements than paper, so I settle the file format and resolution with your printer before we start production.

04How do you prepare files for a wall mural?+

I can design a wall mural as a repeat pattern that tiles seamlessly, or as one large composition spanning the whole wall - it depends on the room and the effect you're after. I prepare the file for a large-format printer: the right dimensions, bleed and resolution matched to the size of your wall. I confirm the measurements and print technique with the printer before I start, so everything stays sharp on the wall.

05Will you illustrate board game cards?+

Yes. I illustrate decks for board and card games - characters, items, card backs, whole themed card series. With cards the biggest challenge is the small format: every illustration has to read clearly at arm's length and sit well next to the rest of the deck. Beyond the cards, I can also illustrate the board, tokens and box, so the whole game becomes one consistent world.

06How long does a product illustration project take?+

It depends on the scope - a single label comes together faster than a whole packaging series with several variants. I give you a firm timeline together with the quote, once you describe the product, because only then do I know how many illustrations are involved and how complex they are. We work in 4 steps: brief, project for approval, your notes, finalization and production files - print-ready CMYK where it's needed. I never promise a deadline I can't keep.
