Wedding couple portrait painted from a photo - Anna Karwala

Wedding portraits from photos

A wedding portrait
that stays on the wall.

I paint a wedding portrait from your photo - the couple, a thank-you for parents, or a recreation of an old wedding photograph. A keepsake that doesn't get lost among the envelopes.

Why a wedding portrait

A photo gets filed away. A portrait gets hung.

A wedding portrait isn't just an enlarged photo. It's your day run through an original hand - with an emotion a plain photograph won't hold.

I paint from a photo, so you don't have to pose anywhere. A good photo is enough - yours, your parents', or an old photograph of grandparents to recreate. We settle the rest when you order.

This is a separate service from wedding live painting, where I paint guests live during the reception. A wedding portrait I paint ahead of time from a photo, so you have it ready to give on the day or hang at home.

What I paint

Wedding portraits for every occasion.

The couple, parents, an anniversary, a recreation of an old photo - a portrait for every occasion worth keeping.

  1. 01

    Couple portrait from a photo

A wedding portrait of the couple painted from your photo. Give it on the wedding day or hang it at home as a keepsake from the most important day.

  2. 02

    Thank-you portrait for parents

A thank-you portrait for the parents - both sets of parents on one painting or separately. A moving gift that stays with them for years.

  3. 03

    Old and retro wedding portraits

Recreating an old wedding photo - grandparents, parents - as a painted portrait. I turn a faded photograph into a living image in a retro style.

  4. 04

    Wedding portrait as a gift

A portrait as a wedding gift from witnesses, family or guests. A surprise that doesn't get lost among envelopes - it ends up on the wall.

  5. 05

    Wedding anniversary portrait

A portrait for a milestone anniversary - 25, 40, 50 years together. I paint the couple from a current photo, or recreate them from their wedding photograph from years ago.

  6. 06

    Family wedding portrait

The couple together with parents or the whole family on one painting. A keepsake from the day everyone was together.

How you order

From a photo to a finished portrait.

4 steps, clear stages, a sketch to approve before the final. A good photo is enough - I take care of the rest.

  1. 01

    You send the photos

Send a wedding photo - recent or an old one to recreate. Tell me who should be in the portrait and the occasion you want to give it for.

  2. 02

We agree on details and quote

We choose the technique (watercolour or digital), format, number of people, deadline. I match the quote to what you actually need.

  3. 03

    Sketch for approval

I show a sketch or early version. You give feedback - I adjust the likeness, composition, colours - until the portrait is exactly right.

  4. 04

    I finalize and ship

I paint the final wedding portrait, frame it or prepare a canvas-ready file, and ship worldwide. You always get the digital file too.

Pricing

Custom quote.

The price depends on technique (watercolour or digital), format, number of people in the portrait, and whether you want a canvas print. A portrait of one person costs less than a couple or a combined portrait of parents.

You get a concrete quote after sending the photo and a brief. I reply within 48 hours. Shipped worldwide.

Frequently asked

Technique, time, old photos.

The most common questions about wedding portraits. Missing something? Write to me.

How is a wedding portrait different from wedding live painting?

A wedding portrait I paint ahead of time from a photo - you get a finished painting of the couple or parents to give on the wedding day or hang at home. Wedding live painting is painting live during the reception, where I paint many guests on the spot. So a wedding portrait you order in advance, while live painting you book for the day itself.

Can you make a wedding portrait from an old photo?

Yes - it's a common request. I recreate old, faded wedding photos of grandparents or parents as a painted portrait. Even if the photograph is scratched or black-and-white, I paint a living portrait from it. A legible photo is enough, we work out the rest together.

What is a thank-you portrait for parents?

It's a portrait of the couple's parents, painted from a photo, given as a thank-you on the wedding day or just before. It can be both sets of parents on one painting or separate portraits. A moving gesture that stays with parents long after the wedding.

Watercolour or digital portrait - which to choose?

Watercolour gives a delicate, light, romantic effect - it suits classic interiors. A digital portrait is more vivid and allows larger formats and canvas printing. I'll advise when you order, considering the photo, the room and how the portrait should look on the wall.

How long does a wedding portrait take?

Usually 2-4 weeks from sketch approval, depending on technique, format and number of people. If the portrait has to be ready for a specific date - an anniversary, the wedding itself - tell me upfront and I'll match the schedule. For fixed dates, order with a buffer.

Do you ship wedding portraits internationally?

Yes. Wedding portraits are remote work - you send photos, I paint and ship worldwide. A framed or canvas portrait is packed safely and couriered. You always get the digital file too, so you can reprint copies for family.

Use cases

Where it works.

  1. 01

    Newlyweds with their pet

Was your dog or cat part of the wedding? I paint the newlyweds together with your pet from a photo - the whole close family on one image.

  2. 02

    A moment from the day

The first dance, the vows, walking out of the church - I paint a specific moment from your day off a photo, not a stiff ID-style pose.

  3. 03

    Anniversary gift for parents

For a milestone anniversary, children or grandchildren order an anniversary portrait of the couple - a thank-you gift for parents or grandparents, handed over at the family table.

  4. 04

    Decor for the reception

A portrait of the newlyweds hung in the hall or set on the welcome table - decor the guests notice, and you take home after the reception.

  5. 05

    Retro-style wedding portrait

Here I don't restore an old photo - I paint your current one in a vintage style: sepia, soft light, the mood of an old wedding portrait.

  6. 06

    Thank-you for the witnesses

The couple thanks their witnesses with a portrait - the couple as a keepsake, or a portrait of the witnesses themselves. A gift for standing by you on the day.

Good to know

Before you ask.

01What kind of photo works for a wedding portrait?+

One clear photo where the faces read well is enough - sharp and in decent light. It doesn't have to be professional; a phone photo is perfectly fine. Since it's a wedding portrait from photo, you never pose anywhere. If the picture is old, faded or black-and-white, I can turn it into a living portrait too. Got a few to choose from? Send them and we'll pick the best together.

02How much does a custom wedding portrait cost?+

I have set packages: one painting of the couple 1200 zł, a package with witnesses (2 paintings) 2200 zł, with parents (2 paintings) 2800 zł, and the full set for parents and witnesses (4 paintings) 3400 zł. Those are the digital prices - watercolour on paper adds 200 zł to any package. A larger set, a non-standard group or canvas printing I quote individually. I reply within 48 hours, VAT invoice.

03Is a wedding portrait on canvas ready to hang?+

Yes. If you choose a canvas print, you get an image that's ready to hang - no extra framing or glazing needed. A watercolour portrait I prepare already framed, so it goes straight onto the wall. I pack everything safely and send it by courier across Poland. You also always get the digital file, so you can print another copy for family whenever you need one.

04How many people can be on one wedding portrait?+

As many as you need - from a single person, through the couple, to a combined image with the parents or the whole close family. The more people, the more detail work involved, so the number of figures affects both the quote and the timeline. Want to bring people from different photos onto one image? Say so when you order and we'll work out how best to arrange them.

05How does a retro wedding portrait differ from a contemporary one?+

A contemporary portrait I paint in a natural, present-day style - the way you look today. Retro is the same portrait from your photo, but with a vintage mood: a muted or sepia palette, soft light, the feel of an old studio. In both cases the people on the image are you, today - retro changes only the mood and the colours, not the figures. Restoring an actual old, faded wedding photo of grandparents or parents is a separate thing - I do that too, but then I work from your old picture. Which version suits what you want to hang, we settle when you order.

06Will I see a sketch of the wedding portrait before the final?+

Yes, always. Before I paint the final portrait, I show you a sketch or early version to approve. You give feedback - I adjust the facial features, the composition, the colours - until it's exactly how you want it. Only once you approve the sketch do I paint the final image, so there are no surprises at the end. I usually finish a portrait 2-4 weeks after the sketch is approved.
