That’s a lot of freedom, but also a lot of competition - because in Warszawa guests are used to weddings at a high level. I paint portraits live, I travel all over Poland, but I keep coming back to Warszawa. This city attracts couples who think of a wedding as an event - they want something more than a good menu and good music. In this post I’ll show you what live painting at a Warszawa wedding looks like and what exactly it brings to the evening.

What live painting at a wedding in Warszawa is

Live painting means painting guest portraits in real time, during the wedding. My station is discreetly placed in a designated spot in the wedding hall - visible, but not disrupting the movement of guests. The easel, palette, paints and materials take up 2-3 square metres.

Each portrait is created from a short photo session. I take a reference photo of a person or group, and then I paint - 6-12 minutes per image, depending on the level of detail. I work with individual portraits, group portraits and romantic images of the newlyweds.

In Warszawa I meet weddings of very different character - from very classic ones, organised in historic palaces in Mokotów or Wilanów, to modern ones in industrial venues in Praga. The art station fits into each of these atmospheres - we match the style of the portraits to the aesthetic of the hall and your preferences.

If the wedding takes place in a venue of classic character - a palace in Wilanów, a manor house in the area, a hotel in the city centre - the portraits can pick up that atmosphere. The palette will be more traditional, the composition classic. If you’ve chosen a venue of modern character, the palette can be more contemporary, more minimalist.

How the collaboration during live painting in Warszawa works

The four stages of the whole process:

1. First contact and quote. We meet by email or online. I ask about the date, the wedding venue, the number of guests, the schedule. We decide on the scope - just a portrait of the couple, portraits of the guests, or both options. I prepare an offer tailored to your assumptions.

2. Planning the details. In the weeks before the wedding we discuss the details - the style of the portraits, the colours, the number of working hours, the location of the station in the hall. If you have chosen motifs, favourite palettes or specific ideas, we discuss them before the day of the celebration.

3. Work at the wedding. I arrive early, usually an hour before the first dance or right after an outdoor ceremony. I set up the station, check the light, start painting. Over 5-7 hours, 30-45 portraits are created.

4. Handing over the paintings. The portraits can reach the guests as they go or be collected as a collection for the newlyweds. The newlyweds always get their portrait - it’s the first item on the list, regardless of circumstances.

What sets live painting apart from a typical wedding attraction

Warszawa guests are demanding - they’ve already been to many weddings, seen photo booths, magicians, neon signs, sparklers. All of this is good, but after years it’s hard to stand out with standard solutions.

A wedding in Warszawa and the logistics of work

Warszawa is a sprawling city, but in the capital I come across weddings in very different locations - from the centre, through Mokotów, Wilanów, Bemowo, Ursynów, to Praga and the surroundings. All these districts are accessible to me. If the wedding takes place near Warszawa - in Konstancin, Pruszków, Otwock, Józefów or further - I travel there too.

I need a station of 2-3 square metres, access to a socket and light. In Warszawa wedding venues these are standard conditions - most halls already have experience with extra attractions, photographers, decorators, so the logistics are smooth.

I work for 5-7 hours of active work, which realistically gives 30-45 portraits. The number depends on the level of detail and the pace of the evening. If you want to be sure all your guests will be portrayed, it’s worth estimating the number in advance and possibly extending my presence in the hall.

When it’s best to book a date

As a wedding destination, Warszawa works all year round, but the season peak is May-September. In this period weekend dates fill up fast - it’s worth asking about availability 8-12 months in advance. Off-season - from November to April - booking is often possible with two months’ notice.
